February 26, 2004
It snowed!
February 16, 2004
We've been doing a lot of our own stuff to the house. I'll continue updating as we add things.
February 13, 2004
Today we closed on the house. The actual closing process was pretty painless. I read everything and we had a ton of things to sign. They tore out the front walkway and replaced it today. It looks much better.
February 12, 2004
We close tomorrow. I stopped by after lunch to check on the progress, and lots was going on. The HVAC guy was there putting the finishing touches on the heating. They were doing the landscaping for most of the afternoon (even in the rain), and they were doing some more painting.
February 7, 2004
Today we had the home inspector out again. We also did a walkthrough with the builder. They said that they would be done in time to close on Friday. They're going to be busy this week!
February 4, 2004
Stain on the stairs and railings.
January 31, 2004
Not much progress in the last two days. The columns were delivered and that's about it.
January 28, 2004
Today we had a home inspector out. They were still working on the electrical and plumbing, so we are having him out again on the 7th. I took lots of pictures during the inspection. Thankfully the camera ran out of batteries after a few hours.

We have some interior doors stacked up, and grout in the tile.
December 22, 2003
A few more shots of the upstairs guest bath, progress on the tile in the master bath, as well as a shot of the tiled laundry room.
December 21, 2003
The tile is down in the kitchen and downstairs bath, and I took some close-ups of the tile patterns. Hopefully they'll come back tomorrow to finish up the grout and the master bath.
December 20, 2003
They've done a lot in the last week! The drywall is all filled in, and some cabinets are in too. There were guys working on the tile when we arrived.
December 13, 2003
And the drywall is up! That was really fast, they completed this in one day.
December 11, 2003
They've put up the insulation.
December 7, 2003
The exterior paint and trim is about done.

October 18, 2003
Framing is underway.
October 15, 2003
Look! It's a slab, and I think that the framing will commence soon as well.
October 1, 2003
We have plumbing! Soon we will have a slab, I'm sure of it.
September 23, 2003
It rained over the weekend. Still there has been progress, as they have started backfilling around the foundation.
September 18, 2003
No progress since the 5th. They've officially moved the anticipated closing date to January 15, 2004. For some strange reason there is standing water around the foundation, despite the lack of rain in two weeks.
September 7, 2003
Just a picture of Alex standing in what will be the basement to give a sense of perspective.
September 5, 2003
It looks like they started on the waterproofing for the basement. Also, the foundation drain is in place. Still no slab though.
September 4, 2003
They were busy over the long weekend. Our basement now has walls. Also, we've chosen our cabinet options and the plumbing fixtures. I think that's it for the options.
August 28, 2003
It rained again today, but the footing is done so there's no harm. Hurray!
August 27, 2003
Finally! They poured the concrete! And then proof that Mother Nature hates us.

More progress, then a setback.
August 14, 2003
Today we went to pick out our customization options. I have been looking forward to this for weeks!
August 9, 2003
It's been a while since the last update because there really wasn't anything new to report on. It's rained just about every day for the last month, but finally there's some progress on the hole. Also inside, a lovely picture of our brook. (It's really a creek. Southfork Peachtree Creek, to be exact.)
July 12, 2003
Just a couple more pictures of the hole. You can really see how a house will fit in there. Also, they've put a tarp down, I suppose they want it to dry out so they can start with the concrete already.
July 3, 2003
Thanks to our pal Bill, it's been raining all week. More shots of dirt, a huge rock and a fireplace await.
June 25, 2003
It's been clear all week, so I was hoping to be able to show you some pictures of cement. Unfortunately, there's still just dirt. But it's been moved around, so go take a look anyway.
June 21, 2003
Friday we applied for the mortgage. That's the not-fun part of this whole process. We're using Todd Covington at Homebanc, and he seems like a good guy. He was referred to me by someone I work with, and whose opinion I trust. I have a link to his website on this page. Then Saturday we went back to the site, and there are a few more pictures of the hole. There was a ton of activity today, they're taking full advantage of the nice weather for a change. I took a bunch of pictures of the other houses to give an idea of what we expect our home to look like.
June 17, 2003
We had our first construction meeting today. The builder signed the contract, showed us the new floorplans and walked around the houses with us. Now if it will only stop raining so they can pour the foundation! Alex said I should post a map showing where the house is, so that's on the page. Also I tried to give an idea of what the change to the master bedroom looks like, but I'm no draftsman. Hopefully you'll get the idea though.
June 15, 2003
Yesterday we signed a contract for a new house! At the moment it is merely a hole in the ground. Pictures show the hole from a few different angles, the view from our back yard, our neighbors' decks, as well as a couple completed homes in the neighborhood, and the detailing in the dining room of one of the semi-completed homes. We're getting a modified Hillsborough floorplan. The standard Hillsborough floorplan is included on this page.
