The Teapot Book

May 1st, 2007 · by sarra · No Comments

Link got this quirky board book from his Aunt and Uncle. It’s fairly hefty, so it spent the last year or so sitting on a shelf in his room with some non-board books that he’s not ready for (he still rips pages). It has 5 “nursery rhymes” in it, including The Little Teapot; Jingle Bells (?!?); Bye, Baby Bunting; 1-2-3-4-5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive; and one called The Kangaroo that I’d never heard of before.

For distraction during diaper changes, Link gets to hold something from his shelves that he doesn’t normally get to play with. Usually it’s a medicine bottle or nail clippers. About a month ago, out of the blue, he asked to hold a book. It took a few tries to figure out which book he wanted. At bedtime, he decided that he wanted to hear the teapot book, instead of the Gorilla book, which has been the favorite for a while.

Since it was Alex’s turn to read, I decided to do the actions for the teapot rhyme. I put my hand on my hip for my handle and I lifted my arm for the spout. When I got all steamed up, I shouted “hey!” And of course, I did a deep bend to pour me out (glug, glug, glug).

Since then, he has asked for his teapot book over and over. He takes it with him in the car when we go to school, and looks at it while I drive. He can find his handle and his spout, and when the teapot gets all steamed up, he says, “hey!”
