My dad and Basia came to visit the last weekend in July.
They came in on Friday evening. They were a little delayed due to a mix up with the tickets, but arrived in time for a late-ish dinner with Link at O’Charley’s. Link was very well behaved, despite the late hour and had lots of fun putting stickers on Grandpa in between bites of bread.
Saturday morning we had a late breakfast/brunch at the Original Pancake House. Link had banana pancakes and even tried some bacon!
After nap, we headed to the toy store so Grandpa could buy Link a late birthday present. Link is so used to going to the toy store and not getting anything that when we asked him what he wanted us to get him, he requested the barrette from my hair (I gave it to him, of course). Daddy took him to the pet store next door to look at kitties while Grandpa got him a motorized fire engine. We took it home and after Link went to bed, I assembled it. Unfortunately the battery needed to charge for at least 24 hours before the first use, so we hid it in the den until Monday.
Sunday we woke early and headed to the zoo. There were no crowds, so we went right to the pandas and got a nice look at a sleeping Mei Lan and Lun Lun having breakfast. Link was pretty tired, so he was content to ride in the stroller for most of the trip. We saw all the animals, and then capped the trip with a ride on the Carousel and the Train.
Sunday night we had dinner at PF Chang’s. Link loved the spring rolls, and Grandpa was very accommodating with the sticker placement. He loved the statues, and daddy took him outside after dinner to see the geese in the pond.
Monday was another early morning, and this time we went to the aquarium. Link was even more tired, and insisted on being carried through much of the exhibits. Still, he had lots of fun showing Grandpa the whale sharks and all the other fish.

We had lunch at Jason’s Deli, and Link finally tried strawberries – and loved them. After nap we finally unveiled the fire engine. At first Link didn’t want to play with it (“I scared”), but after a while he consented to sitting in it and sounding the horn and sirens. He wanted to take it out of the garage, but I told him he wasn’t allowed to drive it until he is 3. (He can’t reach the pedals anyway.)
