Easter in Chicago – Part 5

April 23rd, 2008 · by sarra · 1 Comment

Monday morning we woke after Aunt Mimi left for work. Our flight was at 5:30pm, and though I would have liked to take Link to Chicago to do more sightseeing, I knew that he’d need to nap if I was to survive the trip home.

After we showered and packed, I took Link to the local Target with a Starbucks for my morning latte and a cup of Special Milk for him. The lady at the Starbucks was very nice, but got a little confused with my order. Link ended up with chocolate milk with added vanilla syrup. He took a sip and exclaimed, “It’s ice cream!” I was able to get it away from him and get the right thing, but it was an ominous start to the day.

After we finished our drinks, we went to the toy section to kill some time. Link had a hard time following the rules (we have rules for how we play with toys at the store), and we ended up leaving sooner than I would have liked. There was another playground near Aunt Mimi’s house, so we spent about half an hour there and went back to the house.

Link was being a little difficult, and it was naptime (we had to be on the road by 2), so I tried to get him to take a nap. He was having none of it, but I couldn’t let him slide this time. In desperation, I called Alex at work and he managed to talk Link into taking a short nap. Unfortunately, it didn’t prove to bet a short nap and I had to wake him when it was time to go. Once we got into the car, I drove around fruitlessly trying to find the Panera we’d eaten at previously and ended up having to go to the airport without stopping to eat. Luckily, I had some snacks to tide Link over until we got to the airport.

Once we got to the airport, we checked in without incident and ate pizza at the food court. We even got some ice cream to enjoy while we waited for the plane.

Link was only moderately difficult on the flight. The iPod/portable speaker solution didn’t work because I managed to bring the wrong size batteries for the speakers and Link couldn’t hear the sound. My earphones were too big for his ears, and proved to be a poor back-up plan. Thomas stickers came to the rescue, and I got high fived by the guy across the aisle when we landed.

We actually arrived early, and Alex met us at baggage claim. We finally got home and got Link to bed at 9:30.
