Visit from Aunt Elissa

August 3rd, 2008 · by sarra · 3 Comments

Last Sunday I got a call from my sister. She was on a trip for work and had a long layover in Atlanta. So after nap we drove down and met her for afternoon snack. Link remembered her, and we had a nice visit.

Link had some ice cream and played with his sticker book. Because we are dorks, we posed for pictures in front of a car in the atrium.

Miscellany

July 30th, 2008 · by sarra · 2 Comments

We had a brief thunderstorm yesterday that started just as I was picking Link up from school. We were driving home in the rain and Link was remarking on the thunder and lightning. At one point he said, “The lightning is taking a picture of me.” He also said that lightning would knock the house down, but I assured him it wasn’t the case.

Link is moving up again on August 11. He will be a Fabulous Frog. Apparently at this age, they move all the kids up at the beginning of the school year. The good news is that his friends will move up with him, and it’s a joined classroom so there shouldn’t be any trauma. He already knows where his seat is on the rug, and there’s a computer in the classroom. Then next August he moves to pre-K. *Insert obligatory “time flies” comment here*

Can Haz Cheezburger?

July 22nd, 2008 · by sarra · 2 Comments

I took Dwight to the vet for his checkup on Saturday. He weighed in at about 18 1/2 lbs. He growled, but didn’t bite anyone.

As we were wrapping up the exam, the vet asked me what we were feeding him. I told her Iams weight loss and hairball control. She asked if it was working.

I looked at Dwight and looked at her, then laughed. She had a straight face.

Then realization hit, “Oh, you meant the hairball part. I thought you were making a joke.”

Hide and Seek

July 14th, 2008 · by sarra · 2 Comments

Alex and Link played hide and seek Sunday.

Alex was “it” first. He counted to 10 and Link went to hide. His first hiding spot was lying on the floor by the train table with his hands over his face. I went and helped him hide in the corner behind where the two couches meet, and covered him with pillows. I had high hopes for this place.

Alex got to 10 and asked me if I’d seen Link. I said no. Then Link popped up and yelled, “Here I am!”

Then it was Link’s turn. He counted to 10. Alex hid under the dining room table. Link asked me if I’d seen him. I said no. He walked around and around and couldn’t find Alex.

I tried to pantomime that Alex was hiding under the table, but Link didn’t get it and started to play with his trains.

I figured Alex’s back had to be killing him by this time so I pointed him out to Link, who “found him” and ended the game.

A Battle of Wills

July 13th, 2008 · by sarra · 1 Comment

Alex was working late on Thursday so I was on my own with Link at bedtime. He had gotten into some trouble and lost his tattoo. Teeth were brushed, jammies were on, story was read and now it was time to go to sleep.

Link (whining): I want a tattoo
Sarra (putting Link into bed and leaving): No, you lost your tattoo, you got into trouble remember?
Link (getting out of bed and wandering into the library where the tattoos are kept): I want a tattoo
Sarra (putting Link back in his room and closing the gate): No, you lost your tattoo, now go to bed
Link (standing at the gate): Open the gate!
Sarra: Go to bed and I’ll open the gate.
Link gets into bed
Sarra opens gate and walks away
Link gets out of bed and goes in the library and whines: I want a tattoo.
Sarra (putting Link back in his room and closing the gate): No, you lost your tattoo, now go to bed
Link (standing at the gate): Open the gate!
Sarra: Go to bed and I’ll open the gate.
Link gets into bed
Sarra opens gate and walks away
Link gets out of bed and goes in the library: I want a tattoo.
Sarra takes Link back to his room and explains exactly why Link doesn’t get a tattoo.
Link nods and says: I want a tattoo.
Sarra puts Link in bed and says: Go to bed.
Link gets out of bed and goes in the library and whines: I want a tattoo.
Sarra (putting Link back in his room and closing the gate): No, you lost your tattoo, now go to bed
Link (standing at the gate): Open the gate!
Sarra: Go to sleep and I’ll open the gate.
Link gets into bed: Don’t leave
Sarra from just around the corner: I’ll be right here.
5 minutes later, Link is fast asleep. Sarra opens the gate.

Hungry?

July 5th, 2008 · by sarra · 4 Comments

Link still gets a tattoo if he’s dry all day. I made the mistake the other day of letting him see the sheet that contains letters. Of course the first thing he asked for was his name. No problem.

Alex was on tattoo duty the next night, since I was working late. He didn’t have the patience for spelling words, so he let Link pick random letters. D and B. Last night he had me put “train” on his arm.

Tonight when it was tattoo time he requested letters again (of course). He asked for “egg roll.” Egg roll? I tried to clarify. Alex suggested he perhaps meant “Edward” as in Edward the train. No, Link insisted “egg roll.”

And that is why my son’s arm reads like some strange Chinese food menu.

Wall E

July 4th, 2008 · by sarra · No Comments

We took Link to see Wall E this afternoon. This was his first trip to a movie theater. He didn’t quite make it through the whole thing, but he did really well. (Better than Alex expected, anyway.) I’m sure the popcorn helped.

It was in the nice theater with the stadium seating, so Link had no trouble seeing over the seats. There weren’t many people at the 4pm showing. When the PIXAR promo (the one with the lamp that bounces on the letter I) came on, Link commented loudly about how it was like the other movies we have at home. That got a few laughs from the crowd. He was pretty quiet, though there were a few whys. He got antsy a little over an hour in, and I took him for a walk. He didn’t want to go back in so we went home.

The movie was really good. I can’t wait to see how it ends.

Lights Out

June 29th, 2008 · by sarra · 3 Comments

Apparently after we put Link to bed, he gets up and turns on the light and plays for a while. Or at least that’s what he keeps telling Alex. If he *is* doing that, he’s being very quiet about it. We’d have no idea if he didn’t tell us.

My son is not a very good sneak.
