Back to Our New Home

The first thing we picked was the outside of the house. We chose Natchez Trace Brick (pictured above). Then we chose Sienna Sand for the siding and Shaker red for the accents (door and shutters). Everyone on the block has Shell White trim and Weatherwood roofs. We didn't feel it would be appropriate to break the trend.

For the interior colors, we chose Tequila walls and Ivory trim. The tequila color is beige, and not the actual color of tequila at all. (Trust me, I know tequila.) We asked for white ceilings, because it will make it easier to change the wall colors later. It also makes the room brighter.

Next up was the kitchen. First we chose the granite countertops. Alex wanted black, because, "it would be like having a Darth Vader kitchen!" I didn't want dark, shiny counters, because they show streaks. We settled on Baltic Brown (pictured above).

Then we picked Maple as the finish for the cabinets. All the homes I have seen have the annoying beveled edges and I just don't like that. I wasn't able to choose a different option at this time, but we are being sent a brochure with my choices. I prefer a cleaner edged style, like in the example above.

We then chose the tile for the floor in the kitchen/breakfast nook. We decided to use the same tile as the backsplash in the kitchen, but then I changed my mind and got a granite backsplash to match the counters. I don't have a picture of what we picked but it was a greenish textured tile that had a weathered look that added some brown (that wasn't an upgrade!). We decided to use an earthtoned (Ossipee Sunset) tile with the same texture in the downstairs bath.

For the master bath, we chose a different textured tile in a neutral tone (Sand Dollar), and for the other upstairs bath we chose the same texture as in the master in a blue color.

That took us to the carpet section. We chose a short light green (Sage Neutral) Sisal berber in the downstairs bedroom, which will be a computer room/playroom. That will tie in with the bathroom and kitchen on the same floor. All the upstairs bedrooms got an Oatmeal berber, tightly woven, but a little more fluffy.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with our choices. I think I'll feel much better once I find out about the cabinets. I don't know why I'm so picky about that all of a sudden. I also didn't think to ask about the wainscoting, so I guess that's a standard thing.
