Spring Break in Spain

Day Three - Madrid

Champagneria Gala

It used to be a lesbian burlesque outlet, but now, just the best place to eat paella in Spain.  It was goooood!

The Prado Museum (under renovation)

It's a view taken from what normally would be the main entrance.  Note that it also answers the question:  "How many Spaniards does it take to change a lightbulb?"

Statue of Goya outside the Prado Museum

No.  He's not the guy that first canned beans.

Palace Hotel (taken from the steps of the Prado)

It's one of the two big fancy hotels in Madrid (the Ritz is to the right, out of the shot).  We went to have $5 cups of coffee there after our museum trip.  It was quite nice.  We saw a dog get hit by a car as we crossed the street here.

Atrium Inside Atocha Train Station

This used to be the main station.  Trains were lined up in here.  Now, this huge structure is where you buy tickets.  They turned it into an atrium, as you can see.  It's about 90 degrees in here and very humid 'cause of the water spray they send down from the roof.  You can see the mist coming from the roof in the middle of the picture.  In the foreground is a small pond where turtles abound.  We saw someone swipe one of the little cooters here.
