Day Five - Madrid

This is one of the remnants of the wall that surrounded Madrid way back when.  It's the South Gate that faced...well, Alcala I guess.  Off to the right is a very nice park.  Sort of "Central Park" if you will.  We did not walk inside.  We were desperately seeking food at this point.

One nifty thing you can't see in this picture, but during the Spanish Civil war in the late 30's early 40's there were some battles fought here.  You can see where chunks of masonry were shot out by gunfire.
